Bringing Hope and Help to those in need

Posted 1/29/2013

Thanks to Brian Gilbert for taking time out of his personal life to help those in need!

TWIG, MINNESOTA MISSION TRIP SUMMARY

JANUARY 20-26, 2013

On January 20, 2013 a group of volunteers from near and far traveled to Twig, Minnesota, approximately 30 miles north of Duluth to bring HOPE and HELP with house repairs to two families, Chris & Marilyn Hull and Carl & Joann Eastvold who suffered extensive damage to their homes following the flood of June 20, 2012.

Four feet of water in their homes for 10 days or more resulted in extensive damage to many of their personal belongings, plus damage to the floors, walls, including the plumbing, heating and electrical installations.  Approximately 11” of rain fell in about 24 hours with no preliminary warning from the town officials that they were opening the 4th set of gates on the Thompson Reservoir to prevent flooding of the city of Duluth, which resulted in a much greater problem since there was no time to take preventative action.

Much of the credit for identifying and organizing this mission trip goes to our Disaster Pastor friend Reverend Phil and wife Sue Blom.  Phil, is originally from the Duluth area and was a victim of the Red River, Grand Forks flood disaster in 1997.  Since that time Phil has been taking every opportunity to pay back for the help they received by helping other flood victims including 2 years of volunteer service to the Katrina disaster and has been directly involved in helping us with many of our mission rebuilding projects.

Thanks to Phil we got to enjoy half priced housing at the AmericInn in Cloquet, MN and what a blessing that was when temperatures reached 28 actual degrees below zero. Between the Hull’s, Eastvold’s, Blom’s and local ladies groups our tummies were kept far more satisfied than we needed.

Once again our Lord blessed us with a great group of volunteers including,  carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters and various support people who understand that these missions are about sharing the love of Jesus in word and action by helping people in need.  These missions are viewed as our way of thanking Jesus for the gifts he gave us by using our gifts and talents to help those who have suffered some misfortune in life especially when their loss is no fault of their own.

Our list of volunteers for this mission trip are as follows:

Jim and Lynn Albertin, Sheboygan Falls, WI

Phil and Sue Blom, Neenah, WI

Dick Boenisch, Sheboygan Falls, WI

Carl and Joann Eastvold, Duluth, MN

Don Fischer, Howards Grove, WI

Brian Gilbert, Eau Claire, WI

Chris and Marilyn Hull, Duluth, MN

Ray and Shirley Ottman, Sheboygan Falls, WI

Tom and Janis Reisetter, Cedar Falls, IA

Tony Rzadzki, Sheboygan Falls, WI

Leif Gigstad, Sheboygan Falls, WI

From the warm hospitality and gracious appreciation we received from the two families we worked with, we left Twig, MN filled with a good feeling that once again sharing the love of Jesus in word and action is the most satisfying feeling you can experience in life.
